Fall is Approaching - But God forbid that I should glory, save

Fall is now approaching us again. ?The harvest will soon be past. ?The corn is harvested, the flowers begin to die, the summer heat declines, the leaves start to turn, and the fall of the year is here.?All of the seasons are a picture of what happens to every person in life. ?Spring is our childhood, Summer is our 20-30's, Fall is our 40-50s, and then winter comes in our 60-70-80s. ?Creation itself speaks and warns us that there is a harvest and a death for us all, and we all fade and fall as a leaf. ?The grass of our physical strength withers, the flower of our natural beauty fades, and then death comes and takes us away. ?Nature preaches to us every year as well as the Scriptures; Summer is ended, harvest is past, prepare to meet your God!

Death will soon come up into all of our windows. Death will set its axe to every tree. Our strength soon begins to depart, and then we are not. Death honeycombs the earth with graves. Death beds, the grave, and the Judgment throne of God are solemn subjects. We need to become familiar with the world to come before we enter it. We must all take the inevitable journey into Eternity, every one of us. All men are mortal, but we always make an exception for ourselves and put off the evil day. We admit we are mortal, but do not expect to die anytime soon. Even the old man looks forward to a continuance of life.

Men spend thousands of dollars just to extend their earthly life a few months or years. But as surely as you live, you will die one day. You will lie on a death bed before long. There will be very little hope for you to recover. The doctors will begin to whisper in your room and shake their heads. The doctors all know your end is near. Your loved ones begin to weep and pray for you. ?People tread softly in the room where there is a dying man. Death is an awesome thing. You must go to your long home. Where will you spend all of Eternity? ?No one on earth can delay the departure. All the gold in Fort Knox cannot bribe Death's cruel hand. One day soon, you will not be able to buy yourself another hour of physical life; your time will come, and you must go the way of all the earth.

Your spouse will want you stay, but you will torn from their embrace. No friend can take your place and die for you, there can be no proxies in death. You must do your own dying all alone. It is appointed unto all men once to die, and die you must. The hour will come! Your pulse will begin to slow, your eyes will begin to glaze, and then you will flatline, and your soul will depart your body. Every individual must do his own dying and giving account to his Maker.

Salvation and character become very important as death approaches. Your life is now put into the balance, you begin to look back over all your years. It will be the most important thing in the universe to you. Your sickness is now a small matter compared to Eternity, your soul is your main consideration. Did you live a righteous or wicked life? Were you a fearer of God or a despiser of Christ's grace? The best physician, the softest bed, and finest medical care will not be able to comfort you then. It is the man himself, the man's soul, and the man's personal character that is now seen in its true light; death demands your whole thought.

Whether you be a prince or peasant, a king or pauper, we are all the same at death. You have to face for yourself the great things of Eternity, and you cannot hand these things off to another to handle for you. You used to hear others speak of Eternity, but now you must experience it alone. Into the cold river of death your own feet must step, death bony hand will touch your body, and into the unknown future you must plunge all alone, you must pass through tracks unknown. You must believe in the Risen Savior for yourself, and you must have a good hope through grace in your own soul, or death will be the king of terrors to you. Men never think of these things till it comes time for them to die.

You may have made plenty of money in your life selfishly and sinfully. But all men at death come to a level. In death, finances will mock your lost soul and become contemptible. Moral and spiritual issues are most esteemed at death. How you lived, your thoughts, your heart towards God, repentance of sin, real belief in Jesus, resting upon the finished work of Christ or no - these are the things that will really matter. You must now look to what you did, and what you were, and what you are. Now is reckoning time, and the sum total will be added up. It will matter very little what you were before men, but the solemn question will be, what were you in secret before the all-searching eye of the Almighty? You will have to render an account.

Death tests all things. You will be past the time for pretenses and shams. The salvation you professed must be truthful now, you must be really regenerate, or you must perish forever. You will need the sweet and sure Promises of Scripture at death: "Him that cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out." "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." "The blood of Jesus Christ God's Son cleanseth me from all sin." You will need the plain truths of the Gospel to rest your soul upon. You must come face to face with Eternity. Are you ready? You may think yourself to be somebody in the church, but that will be of small account in your last moments. No man can die on stilts.

Death finds out the truth of our condition and blows away all the chaff which we thought to be real wheat. You must look to the mercy of God, trust to the Blood of Calvary's Lamb, the Promises of the Gospel, you must cling as a poor, needy, and guilty sinner to the free and rich and good grace of God, or else your soul will sink into the firepit of Hell. When life is ebbing, nothing will do but the Grace and Blood and Promises of God in your last moments. You will need Christ Himself to get you past death's terrors. You will have to come to God as a needy sinner, and find in Jesus all your hope. Dying men want realities, they need a sinner's Savior, they desire an Atonement for their guilt, so they can pass out of this world with real hope. Dying sinners want a real living Savior, no one else can help you when it comes time for you to die.

You must go the way of all the earth, there is no alternative. You will not be able to resist the power of God's summons for you to depart this world and come before His bar of Judgment. Willing or unwilling, it matters not, you must go and meet your Maker. Be wise - prepare to meet God now. Nevertheless, whether you are ready or not, it makes no difference, you will have to leave all and take your solemn journey and face God. Your family and necessities will not be able to detain you. You may not have a will and your business affairs may all be tangled, but still you must go. The clock will tick next to your bedside in the silence of your last night. The doctors will consult with each other, and they all will have to admit that there is no remedy for you. It is clear that your hour has finally come; you must go. This must happen to you, lay it to heart.

You will breathe your last, and the medical examiner will come and take your body to the morgue. Your loved ones will weep a while, and then they will all come to view your body and gaze once more upon your face, and say their final goodbyes. Your family and friends will all gather at the funeral home, the minister will say a few choice words, and then the cars will proceed to the graveyard. You will take your last ride. All the cars stop and pay respects while your funeral procession passes by. Face it - this funeral will soon be yours.

The obituary will soon have your name there in black and white. Your corpse will be hauled out by the pall bearers and carried to your grave. Within a very short time each one of us must lie within a coffin, and then will come the open grave, the gathering of the mourners, the minister's final words, and then the lowering of your casket. The dirt will begin to fall upon the coffin lid. Earth to earth, dust to dust, and ashes to ashes. A mound of dirt will cover your body, and maybe a flower or two, perhaps a headstone, to this end you must come. Do you realize that this is so near?

Your soul will leave your body at death. You will be stripped of this house of clay, and you will die, but you will live again, live forever. You will be judged, to be justified or condemned by your Maker. You will live forever either in happiness or torment. You will go where you shall not return, there will be either endless bliss and joy, or ceaseless woe and torment for your soul. Your soul's real state immediately after death will be known beyond question. Whether you are accepted before God, or whether you are reprobate, condemned, and beyond all hope, this will be known in a moment. It will be either happiness or misery.

Death is filled with hope for the Christian, but it is a terrible dread for the ungodly. Your soul will never return to this world's cares. You will stand before the Judgment and receive the final divine verdict from the lips of Christ Jesus, the appointed Judge of all mankind. You will either be accepted or condemned based on what you did with the Man Christ Jesus. It will be bliss unspeakable or misery unutterable, you will either be blessed or cursed.

Life is so short. At the commencement of life, it looks like an endless road, but as we advance along the path the end seems very near, and we begin to perceive how very short our time is here on earth. Your age is descending, and your time for lingering here is certainly short. Your lease has almost run out. In a short time, you must set sail for the land which is afar off. Life is so short, that we have scarce begun to live before we are called to die.

Any work to be done for Jesus, let us do it at once, or else it will never get done. If your salvation is to be sought, seek it now, for you shall soon be where salvation is no more preached. If you possess worldly goods, hold them very loosely, for in a short time you must leave them all behind. Give your goods to God's glory, your stewardship will not last for long, and you shall soon give an account. Always be prepared to die.

Who'll be the next? No one knows. The cemetery's gates open every day and the funeral procession passes through. Who'll be the next to go? To be ready to depart this world is wisdom. Look ahead, be not as the fool, be prudent, consider your latter end. It is the mark of the blinded worldling that he confines his thoughts within only a short period of time. Look out into the everlasting future as an immortal being should do. Don't perish with the careless and thoughtless worldlings. To be prepared to die is an immediate duty. Don't neglect your soul's deep need - the Forgiveness of Sins through God's Blood. To be unprepared for death, and to know it may come at any moment, must keep your soul in fear and dread. To be prepared to die is to be prepared to live; to be ready for Eternity is in the best sense to be ready for time.

You need to unload your sins at the Cross today, and find mercy through the Blood of Christ, and be reconciled to God by the bloody death of His Son. See to your soul's needs at once. There is no time to spare, the end is drawing near, every flying moment is hastening on our last hour. It is high time to awake out of your sinful, suicidal slumber and in earnest seek and trust the Savior's Blood.

Your occupation, your home, your family and friends, the pleasures of life, hopes and fears, joys and pains, you shall never return to these after death. To spring's flowers, the summer's sun, the fall's colors, the winter's snows, you shall not return to these. To your brothers, children, spouse, you shall not return. To the preaching of the Gospel, to the Bible, to opportunities to be Born Again, to space for repentance, and to the mercy of God in Christ, you shall not return, you will never hear any more invitations to be saved. He which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and where the tree falls, there it must lie. Once you pass the threshold of life unsaved, you cannot return to be saved, you die is cast.

If you were at this very instant to leave your body, where would your soul be? You will go and dwell with the people you loved to be with here on earth. Yes, you will keep the same company forever. What you have chosen on earth shall be your portion hereafter. The scoffer, the drunkard, the infidel, the liar, and the unchaste shall be your companions in hell, if they were so here on earth. If you really like the earth, you will get to go live right in the middle of the earth in Hell, where you belong. If you loved sin, you shall be steeped up to your throat in it in Hell's fires. Sin will be everywhere in Hell, Sin will all around you there like liquid fire.

The wages of sin is still eternal death. But if your trust and delight has been in God and His Son, you shall dwell in Heaven. If you have believed and rejoiced in Christ Jesus' blood and righteousness, you shall abide with Him forever. Your disembodied soul shall dwell with Christ and His people, or with Sin and lost sinners forever and ever - Either in paradise with Jesus, or in Hell with Satan. If you die in Satan's family, you have to go and live in Satan's house forever - Hell. If your sin is not put away forever by the Lamb of God Himself, then you can be sure your will find you out at the Judgment. Lay it to heart!

If you are Born Again, seek to mend your matters now, avoid the doing of evil in private and public. Forsake and stop all known sin. Keep to the truth of Scripture and the good old Gospel. Live surely, honestly, and thoroughly. See to the bringing up of your children in the fear of the Lord, the conversion of your neighbors, give your talents for Christ, consecrate all your substance to God. The curfew of life is sounding for you.

Wall Street Week Ahead: Bulls eye Spain, Bernanke and jobs

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wall Street will open October with a busy week, highlighted by low expectations for global manufacturing data and the U.S. jobs report. Any positive surprises may help lift the market.

Spain is the wild card. And if it's played well, then the bulls might dance.

The S&P 500 <.inx><.spx> finished its third positive quarter in the last four on Friday, despite suffering its largest weekly percentage decline since June. For the past three months, the S&P 500 gained 5.9 percent - its best third quarter since 2010. In contrast, the index was down 1.3 percent for the week.

The benchmark S&P 500 earlier this month reached its highest level since late 2007. Yet uncertainty remains over whether stocks can hold their gains against the headwinds of a struggling economy. That explains, in part, the retreat over the last several days.

The S&P 500 hit a high of 1,474.51 in mid-September before pulling back by a bit more than 2 percent. A run at 1,500 seems possible, but the flurry of economic and world events ahead probably will prevent a major advance in the coming week.

Bulls are betting that last week's Spanish budget proposals will be a preamble to a bailout request by Mariano Rajoy's government. The move would be seen as a first step to get the finances of the euro zone's fourth-largest economy in order and would clear some of the market uncertainty regarding the euro zone crisis.

Monetary policy is also on the list of market catalysts this week. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is scheduled to speak on Monday and the minutes of the latest FOMC meeting are set for release on Thursday. The week's agenda includes meetings of the European Central Bank, the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan.

Brian Jacobsen, chief portfolio strategist at Wells Fargo Funds Management in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, said he believes "we could see a rebound" this week "if we get some of the stars aligning and have Spain ask for a bailout, the ECB announcing favorable terms for that bailout, and if we see the Bank of Japan announce further monetary intervention.

"If Spain and the ECB don't deliver, we could set ourselves up for a further lateral move in the markets," Jacobsen added. "A negative would be if Rajoy flat-out denies that they need a bailout."

The ECB and BOJ are set to meet on Thursday, with the Bank of Japan's meeting extending until Friday.

FACTORIES, JOBS AND THE U.S. ELECTION

Chinese factory and business conditions data will kick off a numbers-heavy calendar for markets. Manufacturing PMI, due on Monday, is expected to show a second straight month of contraction.

A snapshot of U.S. manufacturing activity will be provided on Monday when the Institute for Supply Management releases its September index. The September ISM reading is expected to show another month of contraction, but at a slightly slower pace than in August. On Wednesday, the ISM will release its U.S. services-sector Purchasing Managers' Index, which could show a slight deceleration in the pace of growth in the non-manufacturing sector.

"We have Chinese economic data over the weekend, and we'll see how markets react on Monday," said Wasif Latif, vice president of equity investments at San Antonio, Texas-based USAA Investment Management.

"It seems like the market is bracing for bad numbers, meaning if they're not as bad, it could be market-positive," Latif said.

Non-farm payrolls for September, due on Friday, are forecast to gain 115,000, while the U.S. unemployment rate is seen ticking up 0.1 percent from August to 8.2 percent in September.

The jobs data will come on the heels of the first of three U.S. presidential debates, scheduled for Wednesday night.

With just one month to go before election day on November 6, Wall Street will watch the economic data more closely than it usually does. In a year when the incumbent president is campaigning for a second term, the country's economic numbers tend to become more positive as election day approaches.

The U.S. stock market also tends to gain in years when incumbents are re-elected, according to the Stock Trader's Almanac.

For the year, the Dow Jones industrial average <.dji> is up 10 percent, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.spx> is up 14.6 percent and the Nasdaq Composite Index <.ixic> is up 19.6 percent.

Recent poll numbers point to a strengthening lead by President Barack Obama, but a weak payrolls reading could give some hope to Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

"If Romney doesn't turn the ship with a very strong (debate)performance, the president is going to win," said Jack de Gan, chief investment officer at Harbor Advisory Corp in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

He said the trend in the polls has taken away some of the market uncertainty regarding the presidential election. He added that an ECB- or Spain-related headline out of Europe on Thursday could overcome almost anything that would happen Wednesday night during the debate.

"I think the market is coming to terms with the fact the president is ahead, and unless something significant changes, (he) will prevail."

AP Interview: Iran opposition chief see rebirth

AUVERS-SUR-OISE, France (AP) ? The leader of an Iranian militant group that was taken off the U.S. terror list on Friday says the move will change her group's "balance of power" with the world ? predicting a higher profile in politics, fundraising and diplomacy as well as increased anti-regime activity in Iran.

The U.S. State Department said the People's Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK) hasn't committed terror for more than a decade. The decision means that effective immediately, any assets the group has in the United States are unblocked and Americans are permitted to do business with the organization.

Maryam Rajavi, the Paris-based head of the exiled opposition group, said in a rare interview that she hopes the organization can now have the ear of the world's diplomats to help bolster its bid to overthrow Iran's clerical regime. She stressed that its goal was to replace the Islamic Republic with a democratic government.

Rajavi praised the "courage" of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for what MEK believes was a long overdue decision. A court order had given Clinton until Oct. 1 to act. The group was removed from the European Union's terrorist list in 2009.

"It now has become evident for everyone that these (terror) allegations were untrue," she said. "This is a movement for freedom and democracy in Iran."

The Iranian regime is likely to be furious at the U.S. decision to delist MEK ? for years the only armed exile opposition group. The group, which began as a guerrilla movement fighting Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, helped overthrow the monarch in 1979 then quickly fell out with the Islamic Republic's first leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

MEK later teamed up with Iraq to battle Iran in an eight-year war in the 1980s, then from its Iraqi base continued military action against neighboring Iran.

A senior State Department official said Washington does not view the group as an opposition movement that can promote democratic values in Iran. The official briefed reporters on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

"They are not part of our picture in terms of the future of Iran," the official said.

Still, the U.S. credited the group's 3,000-plus members at a paramilitary base near Iraq's border with Iran with a peaceful departure to another camp, a major step in their eventual departure from Iraq.

The United States contends the group was responsible for the killing of several American military officials and defense contractors in the 1970s, carrying out attacks on Iran from its base in Iraq.

Rajavi, 58, wore what has become a trademark headscarf among MEK women during the interview Friday at MEK's headquarters in the leafy town of Auvers-Sur-Oise north of Paris. She denied claims by critics that MEK has all the earmarks of a cult, blaming Iran for such allegations.

"All the energy and potential of our movement were chained" during the 15 years that MEK was listed by the United States as a terrorist organization, she said, speaking in French as well as the Iranian language of Farsi through a translator.

At its headquarters, the group was preparing for a jubilant fete on Saturday, plastering walls on the street with red drapes and photographs of "martyrs," as it refers to members who have been killed.

"The diplomatic scene will be completely different" because the group's status as a pariah will evaporate, Rajavi said, reiterating MEK's long-standing denial of terrorism.

But, she said, "the most important impact ... will be seen inside Iran."

"The balance of power, the balance of power is going to change. For example, the first message for the Iranian people will be they won't fear increasing their activity and increasing their demonstrations," she said. The fear "will evaporate ... and that will lead to the expansion of anti-regime activities within Iran."

With a clean bill of health in the West, the Iranian regime "will no longer have the excuse" of acting against an organization deemed terrorist by the United States.

Mujahedeen, protected in Iraq under dictator Saddam Hussein, were disarmed after the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq and are disliked by the new Iraqi government, dominated by Shiite Muslims like those in Iran.

The United States had insisted the MEK's members leave Camp Ashraf, their home in Iraq, as a condition for removal from the terrorist list. All but several hundred militants are now located in Camp Liberty, a former U.S. base outside Baghdad, looking for placement in third countries.

Among those transferred to Camp Liberty were Rajavi's 30-year-old daughter and her 32-year-old son, she said.

A veil of mystery has long surrounded the group, not the least over the whereabouts of its main founder, Massoud Rajavi, who married Maryam and, though not seen since at least 2003, continues as its co-leader.

There has been speculation that he is dead. Rajavi said Friday he is alive but would not say where he is living.

For Nokia, helping the competition find its way is good business

Financially, Nokia is in bad shape. It lost a billion dollars last quarter, which is only good news when you look at the quarter before that, which shows a $1.7 billion loss. Despite all this, Christof Hellmis, VP of Product Location Services at Nokia, doesn't seem to be the least bit concerned. In fact, he's rather chipper as he sits down with us at this year's Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris.

Perhaps that's because his division, Location & Commerce, is doing quite well indeed. Containing the remains of Navteq, L&C pulled down nearly €100 million profits in each of the past two quarters. It's a healthy golden goose in Nokia's rapidly shrinking barn. So why, then, is the company helping its competition improve their own offerings by providing more comprehensive navigation services baked right into Windows Phone 8? And, why is it that Apple's own attempt at mapping has gone oh so poorly? Those are just a few of the questions we asked of Mr. Hellmis, all detailed for you after the break.

As debate looms, Romney looks to Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? His path to victory narrowing, Mitt Romney is looking to Pennsylvania to help slow President Barack Obama's momentum ahead of a high-stakes meeting on the debate stage next week.

The Republican presidential nominee was to campaign Friday in the Philadelphia area, first courting donors at a high-dollar fundraiser and then meeting voters at a midday rally.

Fresh off a promise to spend more time in the swing states that matter most, Romney will pass much of the day in a state that has not supported a Republican presidential candidate in nearly a quarter-century. His campaign is not running any television ads in Pennsylvania, and aides privately concede that Obama has a significant advantage just 40 days before Election Day.

They suggest that Romney's visit ? his first to the state in more than two months ? is largely designed to raise the money needed to narrow Obama's edge in more competitive states. After raising $5 million at a Washington event Thursday, Romney is expected to generate more than $1 million in Philadelphia and an additional $7 million at a Boston fundraiser later Friday.

"We're going to have to make the right choice on Nov. 6, and you're going to make that happen," Romney told cheering donors in Washington.

Obama will also focus on raising cash Friday as he keeps his campaign close to Washington, where he has three fundraising events scheduled.

He is set to deliver remarks at a finance event at the Capital Hilton in Washington, where tickets start at $250 but go as high as $10,000 per couple. Obama will attend a smaller fundraiser at a private residence before returning to the Capitol Hilton for a third event.

On Thursday, Romney and Obama campaigned a few hundred miles apart in Virginia.

The president pledged to create many more jobs and "make the middle class secure again," while Romney focused on threats beyond American shores, accusing Obama of backing dangerous cuts in defense spending.

The Republican's message, including questions about the president's response to recent violence in Libya, comes as he tries to move beyond his long-held economic focus to help score political points and reverse a slide in the polls.

"The idea of cutting our military is unthinkable and devastating. And when I become president we will not," Romney declared at an American Legion hall in Springfield, Va.

He is expected to push a similar message on Friday in suburban Philadelphia during a rally at Valley Forge Military Academy and College.

While Romney aides are not optimistic about their chances in Pennsylvania, Republicans are not giving up on the state.

"We have an aggressive operation and ground game in place," campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said.

The state GOP is set to begin running a television ad Friday assailing Obama's economic leadership. Pennsylvania's unemployment rate, at 8.1 percent, is slightly less than the national average.

Obama and Romney are scheduled to face off Wednesday in Denver for the first of three presidential debates, which may represent the challenger's best remaining opportunity to change the trajectory of his campaign. Romney has struggled through a series of perceived missteps in weeks amid signs that confidence in the nation's economy is on the rise.

The Obama campaign released a political memo on Friday saying it expects Romney "to be a prepared, disciplined and aggressive debater."

However, it said that while the president would be laying out his vision for the coming years, Romney has "signaled that he will come to indict the president for the fact that the economy has not fully recovered from the collapse of 2008."

The Obama memo and an accompanying web video also aim to debunk claims by Romney that the president has mischaracterized the Republican's positions on the auto industry bailout, abortion and raising taxes on wage earners to cover tax cuts for multimillionaires.

Obama was expected to meet with advisers Friday to prepare for next week's debate. The president was departing Sunday for Nevada, where he planned to hold debate practice sessions near Las Vegas.

Romney has been focused on fundraising and debate preparation for several weeks, raising some questions from within the GOP about his strategy. Earlier in the week, Romney said the time had come in the campaign when he would start spending less time with donors and more time with voters in swing states.

Following his stop in Pennsylvania, Romney heads to Boston for an evening fundraiser and a weekend focused on more debate preparation.

In an election centered largely on the economy, each side got some new ammunition on Thursday. The Commerce Department lowered its earlier estimate of tepid growth for the April-June quarter, while the Labor Department said the economy added 386,000 more jobs from April 2011 through March 2012 than previously believed.

Romney compared the American economy to that of Russia as he ignored signs of growth and pounced on the Commerce Department's downward revision.

"By the way, Russia's GDP growth is at 4 percent. And we're at 1.3. This is unacceptable," he said. "The president does not understand how to get this economy to work for the American people."

As we get ready for three television debates between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, much is being written about the first one between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon 52 years ago. The problem is that so much of it is wrong. Rarely have so many inaccuracies become part of an event's mythology. Over the years I've written about the pivotal Kennedy-Nixon debate several times. Sweden's H&M: Q3 profit rose slightly

STOCKHOLM (AP) ? Swedish fashion retailer Hennes and Mauritz on Thursday reported a tiny 1 percent rise in third-quarter net profits, saying that although its clothing lines sold well in the beginning of the summer, the European financial crisis and poor weather conditions in August restrained consumption more than expected at the end of the period.

It also said it plans to launch a new fashion brand, & Other Stories, in the first half of next year, which will be located in separate stores. The clothes will focus more on quality and will be higher priced than its normal fashion lines.

The Stockholm-headquartered group posted a net profit of 3.6 billion kronor ($549 million) in the three-month period, up slightly from 3.59 billion kronor in the year-ago period. Aside from lower-than-expected sales at the end of the summer, currency fluctuations also hurt its income.

Revenues came to 33.57 billion kronor, up from 31.51 billion kronor, but the gross margin shrank to 58.2 percent from 58.6 percent.

H&M said it will ramp up its expansion rate for the full year 2012, planning to open 300 new stores instead of the previously planned 275.

Online universities: Online Education - A Modern Way to Gain an ...

Those leading hectic and sometimes overwhelming lives - young and old - are beginning to discover online education as a convenient niche in learning. Because the Internet has vastly expanded its reaches to society, one of the greatest evolutions has been the expansion of online learning and distance education schools. While we live, eat and breathe the Internet 24/7 these days, online schools provide an innovative way to integrate higher education into our busy lifestyles!

Today, one can earn online degrees or certificates in diverse fields through online courses that are readily accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As an off-campus student, individuals can gain access to fully-accredited online coursework and degree programs without ever having to leave the comfort of their own homes or personal offices, thus creating a more relaxed learning atmosphere.

Currently, there are virtually hundreds of online colleges and universities that cater to the needs of working people and/or homebound individuals. Helping students to succeed in their educational and career aspirations, distance learning online schools are fast becoming a convenient, and credible educational tool of the modern era.

Whether you wish to attain online continuing education units, or simply want to fulfill your career goals by earning an online degree in a particular field, an online education can meet or exceed your expectations.

Some individuals do not fully comprehend the extensive online education opportunities that presently exist; aside from online certification and continuing education courses, ambitious students can conveniently earn Associate Degrees right on up to Doctorate Degrees, depending on the desired field of study.

According to a survey report by Sloan-Consortium, "...almost two-thirds of all schools offering face-to-face courses also offer online courses."[1] This reiterates the evolutional quality and prevalence of online courses, the way they have already impacted learning institutions, and how online schools are meeting the growing demands of a busy society.

The fields of study offered online include:
Accounting
Administration
Aeronautics
Arts
Business
CAD
Computer Information Systems
Cosmetology
Criminal Justice
Engineering
Health Services Administration
High School Diploma
Metaphysics and hundreds of other fields!

In recent years, even NASA began offering online educational prospects for researchers and educators by providing Internet access to expand opportunities for educational grants and funding, and for online learning in the classroom [2]. Additionally, online education has evolved to include home-school education to children K-12. Some online schools provide distance education material developed by expert educators to give students a full curriculum, necessary materials, and interactive learning tools.

While the educational field is virtually unlimited, with respect to online colleges and universities, contemporary students desire higher education today in order to compete in a the global marketplace.

7 Surprising Things Fashion Week Can Teach You About Marketing ...

Two weeks ago, I found myself in New York City attending Rachel Zoe?s private fashion show and wondering how I got there.

Before that night, the only runways I had been on were at the airport.

But don?t worry, it might have been unfamiliar territory, but I didn?t waste the opportunity. I did what any good entrepreneur would do when surrounded by supermodels. I analyzed the marketing strategies.

And I have to say, I learned a few things. In fact, here are 7 insights about Fashion Week that you can use to more successfully market your business and yourself.

1. Rally the people who believe what you believe.

I had never heard of Rachel Zoe until that night, but almost everyone else had. They were part of her fashion community. They watch her TV show. They look at all of her designs.

In short: they believe fashion and design are important.

Most strong communities are built around a common belief system. The strange thing is that most marketers waste their time and money trying to convince people to change their beliefs.

Rachel didn?t waste her time trying to convince people like me to love her work. If you?re leading a business or a movement of any type, the goal isn?t to force people to think like you. The goal is to rally the people who don?t need to be fixed.

2. Dream big, start small.

If you wanted to be a fashion designer it would be easy to look at Rachel Zoe now and think, ?Ugh, it?s so easy for her. I wish I could have that.?

Two things.

First, you can, so don?t cut down your own dreams. Second, the only way to make progress is one step at a time.

Do you know the first person Rachel Zoe did fashion design for? Her next door neighbor. She laid out all of his clothes for the week.

It sounds so simple, but what you have right now is enough to get started on your dream. Start with what you have and start now.

I?m sure Rachel Zoe still has big dreams about where she wants to go with her career, but she will probably start small by designing the next piece of clothing.

3. Launches attract attention.

Fashion Week is a big production. As a result, it gets a lot of attention. Major companies like American Express and Mercedes Benz roll in to sponsor it. Thousands of people pay to attend. Major celebrities show up.

Do you know the only reason all of this happens? It?s because the people who run Fashion Week decided to make it one big product launch. It only happens once each year. Tons of blockbuster designers show up. People plan their schedules around it.

If you?re launching a business or a product of some type, then consider how you can make it something for people to look forward to. It doesn?t have to be an event in the physical world (although that would be great). Just give people something to point to and say, ?I want to be there for that.?

4. Market around events to drive yourself forward.

Having trouble getting things done? Feel like your business is languishing and you?re not sure what to work on next? Have five or six open projects instead of one or two completed ones?

Use events to push your business forward and get things done.

Every designer who has a show going on the runway knows that they need to be finished by the time the first model walks out onto the stage. There is a deadline for completion that can?t be adjusted.

Having deadlines that can?t be adjusted is an excellent way to improve your productivity because it forces you to get something out to the world ? even if it?s smaller than you imagined.

Use events ? speeches, meetings, webinars, conferences ? to force yourself to complete tasks and market your product publicly.

5. Rigid thinking benefits no one.

Sure, some of the designs at Fashion Week are off?the?wall and over?the?top, but so what? If everyone stuck with what we already do, then we would all end up stuck.

Whenever you try something new there will be a lot of mistakes made. (And let?s be real: when I see someone coming down the runway dressed like Big Bird, I?d call that mistake.)

But in the end, making mistakes is the only way forward. You can either play it safe in the world someone else created, or you can push the envelope and (possibly) create a new world for everyone to enjoy.

6. Success unshared is failure.

Take a moment to imagine the thousands of people wearing Rachel Zoe designs. Now imagine if she had kept those designs to herself. Imagine if she simply drew them up in her free time and filed them away in a drawer.

That?s exactly what many would-be business owners do! They think up great ideas, but then talk themselves out of sharing them with the world.

It doesn?t matter how great your ideas are or how brilliant your plan is, it only becomes meaningful once you allow other people to take part in it. Your value doesn?t come from the achievements you enjoy, but the people you share them with.

Sidenote: The people you share your ideas with are the only ones who can make it a success. Every person at that fashion show can now be an advocate for Rachel Zoe and her work because she shared it with us.

And yet, what do new entrepreneurs do? They ask advisors to sign an NDA before they reveal the million dollar idea. They hoard their thoughts in private spreadsheets and documents for fear of getting them stolen. Stop overestimating the risk of letting other people in on your idea and start realizing that sharing your work is the only way for it to become successful.

7. Give away something nice.

Apparently, the gifts at Fashion Week weren?t very good. I didn?t even notice until the third person came up to me complaining about the ?lame? gift bags.

At first, my response was, ?It?s free, people. Let?s get serious here. How do you complain about something you don?t have to pay for? If you don?t like it, don?t take it.?

But there is something to be said for having a cohesive experience. Everything else at Fashion Week was so nice that the second rate gift bags seemed out of place. They didn?t meet the expectations that were set by the rest of the event.

The lesson: It?s better to do a few things very well than to force in half?baked ideas.

Speaking of giving away something nice?

How would you like $250?

American Express is a sponsor of Fashion Week and Passive Panda, which is how I ended up at the event. As a little bonus for you and courtesy of the Starwood Preferred Guest? Business Credit Card, I?m giving away a $250 American Express gift card to a lucky Passive Panda reader.

Apple iPhone 5 delays? Blame the screen technology.

Apple is having trouble immediately fulfilling pre-order demand for the iPhone 5. And according to a new report, that's thanks to the new 'in-cell' display technology.?

An Apple iPhone 5 phone is displayed in the Apple Store on 5th Avenue in New York.

The iPhone 5: It launched last week. It was popular. It remains popular (although perhaps not quite as popular as some analysts had predicted). And it is delayed.

If you pre-ordered an iPhone 5 sometime in the last 10 days, there's a good chance you won't see your shiny, new, big-screen smartphone until October, which is something of a hassle if you're one of those instant-gratification types.?

So what's behind the delay? Well, according to a new report in Bloomberg, it's the rejiggered display on the iPhone 5. In the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, the display and touch sensor were separate. In the iPhone 5, they're twinned ? the technology is called "in-cell." Bloomberg says it's taking Apple longer than expected to wrestle up the various parts needed for the in-cell displays and to actually assemble the screens.?

"This is like the opening weekend for the summer blockbuster movie," Tom Dinges,?senior principal analyst?at IHS iSuppli, told Bloomberg. "They needed to get a lot of products in the door during a tight window, and these supply constraints that were talked about probably did have some impact." But have no fear: Dinges expects that the supply stream should speed up exponentially in coming weeks.?

In the meantime, as Eric Zeman of InformationWeek points out, there are still a few ways to get your hands on a new iPhone.?

"First, you can try your luck at your local Apple retail store, though Apple warns 'limited quantities may also be for in-store pickup on a first-come, first-served basis,'" Zeman writes. "Second, you can try calling around wireless network operators' stores and other retailers to see if they have any in stock. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless, as well as Best Buy, RadioShack, Target, and Wal-Mart are selling the iPhone 5."

Life and Death and Every Beautiful Thing In-Between. ? Cupcakes ...

Death
Annie died in my dreams last night.

I wasn?t totally dreaming. I was sort of awake. Sort of asleep. And I knew it wasn?t real- still- I couldn?t seem to stop crying and playing out this horrific scene in my head.

It?s not the first time I?ve had the dream. And Annie?s not the first one to be a victim to my mind?s imagination.

I can remember having the dream as far back as five-years-old. Somebody I love dying. Me being at their funeral. Near their body. Crying in my half-awake, half-asleep state wondering if this was normal or if my imagination were especially cruel?

I am not sure if I was simply born this way or what- but death has been at the forefront of my mind since I was a little girl. While my sisters played house and school in the woods, I found sticks and studied the dead critters I stumbled upon. And when news of a real death came in and others cried, I found myself wondering how they died and if they knew they were dying and if they were scared or if they were ok.

Perhaps the roots lie in my vivid imagination. And perhaps if my parents had been bankers or shoe-salesmen, it wouldn?t have been so present. But, when I was little my dad was a police officer and was serving in the military and my mom was a minister. Between the two of them, I saw (or overheard) my fair share of people?s stories of life and death. Drunk driving accidents while dad was working the night shift. Suicide of a church member. Babies that didn?t make it and cancer that couldn?t be beat. ?For some reason, these stories effected me more deeply than my sisters. I carried them- each one wounding my heart a little more- aching over the brokenness in the world.

No one likes to talk about death. (In fact- I will be surprised if anyone is still reading this crazy girl?s ramblings.)

Death is often the ultimate reminder of the cruelty of this world and the one thing that we can?t fix or beat. Like the cloud that hovers over Eeyore?s head, Winnie the Pooh?s infamously pessimistic friend, death hovers over each one of us. But most people have the ability to tune it out, as if the cloud were not real or it belonged to someone else or would never actually open up and rain on them. Some people simply don?t think about it- and I envy that.

For a long time, I wished I was one of those people. The people who don?t wake up everyday and taste death; who don?t know that there is a cloud hanging over them.

But somewhere along the way I came to accept it as my fate. I live in the tension of the living and the dead.

I have since I was a little girl.

I see it everyday. Life and death. And thank God I saw it as a kid and have been working hard (keeping therapists and pastors around the country in business!)- to wrap my heart and soul around what to do with it-

because no one tells you that once you create art- it will work its way into someone?s story- and you will be invited into that person?s story- and you will see life and death closer than you ever have- and you will need to know what to do with that-

what to do with the thing that hovers.

?

I?ve been
in more stories than I ever dreamed was possible.?

After every show. Each day they come. Email. Facebook. Twitter. Even snail mail. Hope Now was played at this child?s funeral or this momma?s wake. This Little Light of Mine was a baby?s only song heard in this world and gave a man the courage to keep going in his hospital bed. What Do I Know Holy was the song they listened to as they made their way to heaven. How this sister died on her way to college and this one died because she didn?t realize how much alcohol she was really drinking and this one died on a school field trip.

Every. Single. Day. They are there.

Babies that miscarried and finally- the miracle child that came and stayed. Battles against deadly addictions won. Brain tumors beat. Marriages saved. Depression fought back. Suicide attempts reversed. Babies that live 2 months instead of 15 minutes- science and doctors defied- life brimming out of inevitable death. Flowers blooming out of sheer dirt.

?

In Between
I am grateful that my sweet Savior knew that one day I would stand at a table and take the hands of the broken, embrace them in a hug and do the best of my ability to laugh, cry, cuss, grieve, smile, listen, listen and listen as they tell me about their journey through the heart wrenching valleys and mountains of this world.

I often say that I don?t care if I ever stand on another stage again and sing. Singing is not why I got into this whole thing. In fact, in the early days I really struggled with being a ?christian musician.? Playing in swanky mega-churches was a far cry from where I thought I would end up- an inner city slum in Africa or Mexico. How could autographing a 6th graders arm really qualify as ministry?

Little did I know- one day that sixth grader comes home and finds life as they know it upside down- and in their utter grief they head to their closet- and they listen to music. And all of a sudden- I am a tiny part of their story.

So somewhere towards then end of my time with Addison Road, it all began to make sense to me. This is exactly what God made me for. Even as a little girl- God was preparing my heart and soul to see life, death and every beautiful thing in between.

To be sure- living in the tension of life and death has its negative effects on me. For instance- I cry in bed while dreaming a not-real-dream that my daughter has died. Or I ask my best friends, early on in our relationships, if they are going to murder me? And I?ve come to find that this sort of question wigs people out. Sorry, Aubrey. And Ryan. And Lauren. I cannot think of myself as an old lady- nor can I think of Annie as a grown adult with kids. Something in me won?t let me dream that far down the road- I tend to err on the side of ?I probably won?t make it that long.? And, of course, I?d much rather have dreams about grandbabies than my daughter?s final moments. There are certainly dark moments when death is so close to your lips.

But those things aside- there is an upside to living in the tension of life and death because you come face to face with life and you have to choose: life or death. There is a way to be dead even when your body is alive. There is a way to be kind of alive even if your heart beats strong and steady. There is a way to have a body detached from a soul.

And then there is a way to live that God offers throughout the Bible-

abundant life.

?Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life?? Deuteronomy 30:19 NLT.

Somewhere in the midst of all this thinking about death- grasping how real and how close it actually is- I have heard Jesus whisper time and time again to me, ?Oh that you would choose life Jenny.?

Oh, that we would choose life.

Life
I care little about money. I care little about success. I care little about small inconveniences; the size of my house; the length of the line in front of me at Starbucks or the bank; or the plans that always seem to change.

I care much about my husband. My little girl. My parents. My sisters. My friends. And all other sorts of people. I over-indulge on snuggling with Annie at night, even though it?s technically not the way you are supposed to teach a child to sleep. I throw ?happy parties? and invite my girl friends to have cupcakes and wine and write cards to people they love but have forgotten to thank. I lay in the grass. I get my hands dirty. I mess up a LOT. I sing out loud and whistle and take millions of pictures and drink lots of wine and sit on my front porch and listen to birds and crickets and I worship. I worship Jesus a lot. I love Scripture. I give hugs- I love too much- and I love too hard- I ride roller coasters when I can- scream at refs during football games- read books to learn as much as I can- help people as often as possible and smile a lot. I like to be interrupted by people?s stories, by strangers, by coffee that goes too long with a new friend, or by my husband?s constant desire to show me how the iPhone has yet again changed his life.

I live like I am dying. Because even though I am not- it is there- Life and Death and Every Beautiful Thing In-Between. And while I have the privilege-

I choose life.

So you want to know the story behind my new song, Heaven Waits for Me? That is it.

When you live with death hovering over you- you have two choices about the way you will live life now?

you can choose to live with the fear of death, hovering over you, stealing your ?joy, robbing your happiness, defining how you carefully live and protect each day-

or you can just live life-

Abundantly. Fully. Whole-heartedly. The way Jesus did in the scriptures. Pouring himself out- and being filled up. Pouring out. Filling up. Never losing site of God the Father and the eternity He would spend in a place where death has no sting, but also embracing every moment of his life on earth. Loving. Healing. Caring. Praying. Resting. Time with friends. Time at weddings. Time at parties. Time with Lepers. Hookers. Thiefs. Religious people. Time with His own Father.

Jesus lived a full life- every single day, with every single breath- he chose to show us what it looks like to live in the tension of life and death?

and what it looks like to do both well.

And that?s what Heaven Waits for Me is all about- living in the tension of life and death- and embracing every beautiful thing in between.
