Twitter king Cai keen to impress on and off field for London Irish

Cai Griffiths?is determined to be as friendly off the pitch as he is hostile on it.

The tight-head prop prides himself on being one of the most approachable players in London Irish?s squad.

He was one of the first to sign up for Twitter and, with more than 24,000 followers on the social networking site, does his best to converse with as many Exiles fans as possible.

He said: ?I love a bit of banter and I do try to tweet back anybody who tweets me. I think I?ve sent about 25,000 tweets so I am quite active on it. I enjoy the interaction with the fans and other sports people. I find it quite interesting and addictive.

?I?ve been doing it for three or four years now.?

When Griffiths agreed his move from Ospreys to Irish in the summer, he was expecting to be joined by a couple of former team-mates.

But Jonathan Spratt moved in the opposite direction, while Tom Smith changed his mind about transferring and remained at the Welsh region.

Griffiths, though, insists he never had any second thoughts about joining Irish.

He said: ?It was not a problem to fit in. Steve Shingler and Dazza (Darren Allinson), two Welsh guys, are here and all the boys have made me very welcome.

?After nine years at Ospreys it was time to move on and freshen up a bit.

?I?m at my peak regarding my age for my position and I wanted a taste of the English Premiership and I thought this was a team I?d enjoy playing for.?

Griffiths is desperate to make up for lost time after two spells out injured.

?It?s been a slow start,? he admitted.

?I got a foot injury 15 minutes into the first pre-season friendly (against Nottingham).

?Then I came off 20 minutes into my Premiership debut against Sarries with a bulging disc in my lower back. That kept me out for six or seven weeks. But injuries happen. You just have to try to get over it and put a bit more work in.?

His target now is to secure a starting spot in Irish?s front-row, but he accepts the club?s other two tight-heads have stolen a march on him.

He added: ?Halani Aulika has been excellent and Leo Halavatau the same. But I know what I need to be working on and if I put it in on the training field hopefully when I get my chance I will take it.?
