Many customers ask me why they should invest in attending Convergence, Microsoft?s annual conference for Dynamics ERP and CRM software users (March 18-21 in New Orleans this year).? I understand their dilemma. Competing priorities and mounting demands make it difficult to justify time away from the office.? ?
My advice is to consider what author Steven Covey taught us about ?sharpening the saw? in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.? He told the story of a frustrated and exhausted lumberjack who was having difficulty cutting down a tree because his blade was dull.? When a passerby suggested that the lumberjack stop to sharpen the saw, the he responded, ?I don?t have time!? Can?t you see that I am busy?!?
We learned that if the lumberjack had taken the time to sharpen his saw, he would have achieved his goal more quickly and effectively.? ?Sharpening the saw? increases your capacity to produce and handle the challenges around you. ?It also keeps you fresh so you can continue to practice the other six habits.? Convergence offers an excellent opportunity to ?sharpen your saw? and recharge your batteries, both personally and professionally.?
What? You?Would Get Out of Convergence 2013
Product Insights & Vision. For a business that runs on Microsoft products, there is no better venue to hear firsthand about the vision that Microsoft has for the tools you use every day.? (Pause?I know what you?re thinking.? I promise.? It?s not a Microsoft sales pitch.? They truly paint a vision.)? Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in research and development so they can provide solutions that drive increased productivity and profitability.? Convergence is ?THE? single most concentrated opportunity to gather the product knowledge and insights you?ll need to make the most of your technology investments.
1:1 Time with Experts.? Microsoft commits a huge number of resources to ensure attendees have a chance to interact personally with the people who actually make your business tools tick.? If you work with a partner, take a minute and think about this proposition.? You likely pay dearly (in fifteen minute increments) for the chance to speak with technical resources about your business tools.? Microsoft is making the people who actually made this stuff available to you at no charge!? Bring your ideas and most pressing questions to the conference, and ask the people who know best how to turn your business vision into a reality.? If you plan your trip well, you can get a return on your investment simply through the savings on technical support alone.
Invaluable Peer Interaction. Having the opportunity to speak with business people just like you who use the same tools you use is rare and valuable.? Having 1,000 of them in the same venue is even more rare and valuable.? Again, the better you plan, the more value you?ll gain.? Spend some time on the Convergence website. ?Use the meeting tools to find people who share similar interests and serve in similar roles.? Schedule the time to have a drink, share a meal, or simply hit one of the events together.? You will be amazed by how much you can gaine by taking this time to get to know one and other.? Then you have a relationship and a potential peer group with which you can interact after Convergence.? Building this group of peers is invaluable and there is no better place to make these connections than Convergence.
Fun.? Of course it will be fun; the event is in New Orleans for crying out loud!? Microsoft and your partner will have lots of great events scheduled.? So work hard during the day, have fun during the evening, and most of all, take some time to ?sharpen the saw.?
But, you don?t have to take my word for it.??All you have to do is?ask another NAV user like Kerry Rosvold, Corporate Controller at Augsburg Fortress Publishers, who attends year after year.
For more information about the conference or to register for it, visit the official Microsoft Dynamics Convergence 2013 web site.? You can save $300 per attendee by registering before January 25, 2013.
