I?m not a totally starstruck kind of person, but I would be lying if I didn?t admit that I do love up close and personal celebrity encounters. Recently, I had the opportunity to preview Chazz Palminteri and Andie MacDowell?s latest film,?Mighty Fine, and chat with Mr. Palminteri and Rainey Qualley afterwards. ?It was so cool!
The semi-autobiographical film, written and directed by Debbie Goodstein, stars Andie MacDowell, Chazz Palminteri, Rainey Qualley, and Jodelle Ferland, and tells the story of Joe Fine (Palminteri), a loving, but abusive and explosive-tempered father, whose financial troubles plunge him deeper into rage-driven behavior as he struggles to keep his head above water and provide for his family. MacDowell portrays Fine?s loyal-to-a-fault wife, and Qualley and Ferland play the beautiful, rebellious teen and introverted, level-headed child, respectively.
What drew me to the film in the first place was that the characters seemed so real. After watching the preview, I was impressed by Palminteri?s portrayal of a loving father with anger issues. ?Even though I haven?t experienced the particular situations in the film, the actors? performances were so vivid and completely believable. ?Afterwards in the chat, Palminteri revealed that he spent much time researching the character ? far from his own experience and personality ? to ensure he delivered an accurate performance.
MacDowell, Qualley, and Ferland were quite compelling in their expression of fear, anger, and conflict between feeling?love for their abusive husband and father and dealing with the onslaught of emotional abuse. I can always relate to the rebellious teen character in any movie, so of course, I loved the gorgeous, Qualley, in her first major performance.
And did you know that Rainey is Andie?s real life daughter?!
Maybe that?s not news to you, but I used to be in the know about all things celebrity, which signals to me that at this point I am really, truly, and officially in Mom territory.
Mighty Fine is playing in select theaters starting May 25th. ?I?d definitely recommend it if you?re in the mood for getting pulled into an emotional journey. ?It?s not a light movie, but it is one that will reach your heart as it explores the intricate nuances of familial love and relationships. ?To get a taste of the film, check out this trailer:
Disclaimer: ?I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Mighty Fine and the distributor. I received access to an online showing of the film and a promotional item to thank me for participating. ?All opinions are my own, but I?m sure you could tell.
