Meek Mill is starting his 25th year off with a bang!
The fiery Maybach Music spitter celebrated his birthday in Philadelphia on Sunday night, and Monday (May 7) marks the release date of his new mixtape. He'll also embark today on a country-wide tour with Drake and a few of their close rap friends.
Meek's Dreamchasers 2 will drop only a few hours before the latest leg of Drizzy's Club Paradise Tour kicks off in Concord, California, but the "I'ma Boss" MC suggested that fans give the tape a few spins before entering the venue.
"If you get my mixtape, make sure you learn all the words fast because I'm doing a lot of new music," he told MTV News at his Philly yacht party on Sunday night. "I'm even doing something from the album on the tour as a part of my set. We finna turn it up, it's called Club Paradise, we gonna have a party," he bragged.
For this leg of his tour, Drizzy is bringing not only Meek, but J. Cole, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame and French Montana with him as well. While the initial Club Paradise dates — featuring Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky — were performed at college venues, this time out Drake teamed with a new roster of supporting MCs and chose to rock outdoor theaters.
"My brother Drake hit me up like, 'Look we got this tour coming up with all the hottest new generation. We about to make it happen,' " French Montana said of how he ended up on the bill. "I just felt like it was a beautiful look, especially at this time."
"I want to go out on tour with the most exciting artists right now, and I want to make sure that I have songs with all of them," Drake told MTV News during a conference call last month. "If we start getting into it and we start really vibing, maybe the last few nights, it's a collaboration show; maybe we do all of our songs onstage together."
One collaboration that fans should fully expect to hear is Rick Ross, Drake and French Montana's "Stay Schemin'." Rozay isn't a scheduled Club Paradise performer, but Drizzy and Frenchie will hold things down, no problem.
The only question is: During whose set will the fan-favorite appear? "[Drake] said, 'Man let's just do it at the end of the show man,' " French confirmed.
